The Bot Framework team at our client is seeking a skilled software developer to work on the open-source Node implementation of the Bot Builder SDK. This is an open-source project used by thousands of developers to build bots using Node.

They are looking for a day-to-day maintainer of the open-source GitHub repository. The day-to-day work includes triaging issues, bug fixing, feature development, release management and working other engineers on the team. Initial contract duration is six months, with potential for extension. You'll be working closely with the Bot Framework product team and helping coordinate complex features and deployments across multiple versions and platforms of the BotBuilder SDK.

Solid writing skills are imperative as the open-source nature of the product means interactions are frequently through GitHub issues and PRs, all of which are public. You must be able to provide clear, concise feedback written in fluent, conversational English. Additionally, engineers are expected to contribute to articles/blogs/FAQs to directly address commonly arising problems. While English proficiency is required, we are keenly interested in candidates with equal skill in a second language.

Summary of requirements:

  • Demonstrated fluency in JavaScript, Typescript, and Node. Experience in C#, Java or Python is a big plus.

  • Experience with GitHub and Open Source projects is a big plus.

  • Experience building Bots is a big plus.

  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills, additional languages a plus

  • Ability to span multiple functions in any given day from bug triage to development to authoring documentation and writing code samples

  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly in a dynamic environment

  • Great problem solver and troubleshooter with proven people skills who enjoys explaining solutions to others

  • Must be local; work-from-home not an option
