New Services Enablement (NSE) Lab & Certification Network Engineer

job summary:

This New Services Enablement engineer position is part of the Strategy & Services Enablement team. The Network Engineer position supports the NSE network lab that is an integral part of standard and custom Managed Services product development. This role is responsible for a wide range of engineering tasks that contribute to a successful product launch. You will work within an internal NSE team that is responsible for the larger cross organizational product development. Your responsibilities include procurement and installation of hardware and software, lab configuration, developing test cases and procedures, participating in testing of the solution with documented results, working with vendors to drive issue resolution, and develop delivery & operational day 2 support documentation and training.

In addition, this position will participate with the cross functional team and be responsible for understanding the requested certification requirements and determining the appropriate certification path for new network or security hardware. You will be responsible for the engineering tasks required to certify a device such as a router, switch, uCPE (whitebox), or firewall. The engineer will leverage lab resources to complete hardware and software configuration definition and installation, as well as develop the fault and performance management policies, define IT system requirements, develop test case creation and execution, and work with vendors to drive issue resolution. The network engineer will provide custom bid responses for uncertified customer requested devices.

Due to hands on tasks required in the lab, this position is located in Cary, NC

Lab tasks include

  • procurement and installation of hardware and software

o rack, stack and cable of lab and demo hardware

o initial configuration of hardware and software/operating systems

  • lab configuration and documentation

  • derive test cases and procedures based on design and configuration

  • participate in testing of the solution with document results

  • work with vendors to drive issue resolution

  • develop delivery /operational day 2 support documentation and training


Mandatory Qualifications:

  • 5+ years overall network technology experience with fundamental understanding of WAN and LAN services

  • Solid knowledge of network and performance management platform methodologies such as: EMC Smarts, CA eHealth, SevOne, Optanix

  • Strong knowledge of the OSI model and associated protocols, with specific focus on the architecture and protocols associated with the following: TCP/IP, SNMP, SYSLOG, AAA, remote device management

  • Experience with virtualization; virtualized network functions, virtualization hypervisors, compute and network requirements

o VMWare and vCenter deployments; installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting

o OpenStack deployments; installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting

o Network Function Virtualization technology background

o Background in WAN and LAN network device designs, cabling and topologies

General Skills:

  • Strong problem solving skills including conceptual and analytical thinking
