Are you a results-driven Controller looking to make a move?

A financial services non-profit located in the Loop is seeking a new Controller. Revenue recognition experience, CPA and experience with Great plains is preferred.

Responsibilities include the monthly financial close, disbursement policy and procedures, approval of payments within company guidelines, and ensuring that a rigorous and comprehensive system of internal controls is in place. Works closely with other lines of business in order to monitor day-to-day operations and provide outstanding financial, accounting and internal customer support.

Specific projects and responsibilities include:

  • Perform monthly financial close and related basic financial reports including expense accruals, reconciliations and journal entries

  • Develop, document and maintain accounting and operating procedures, policies and controls, including both revenue and expense recognition

  • Calculate revenue and deferred revenue. Lead implementation of new ASU 2014-09 Topic 606 Revenue Recognition

  • Determine taxability of various products, ensuring proper recording of revenue and expenses against all products

  • Ensure all revenue is invoiced in accordance with contract terms

  • Oversee Accounts payable and Accounts receivable collections process

  • Calculate all sales commissions

  • Maintain and control corporate credit cards

  • Coordinate annual external audit and tax activities including IRS Form 990 and 990T

  • Responsible for all regulatory reporting, audits and tax payments including IRS, State of Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky and City of Chicago

  • Ad hoc projects and other responsibilities as assigned


  • Minimum six years of progressive accounting and management experience; experience in a Controller position preferred

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance required

  • CPA certification preferred

  • Strong supervision and communication skills

  • Excellent computer skills; experience with Great Plains Dynamics preferred

  • Understanding and/or exposure to designing and monitoring internal controls
