Finance Manager

job summary:

The Role: Finance Manager The Finance Manager reports to the COO and will work to implement and enforce financial audits and reports. In this position you will use your expertise to analyze financial data and inform decisions made by the CEO and COO. You will also interface with other members of the administration team to round out a complete operations department. The ideal candidate has an entrepreneurial attitude and is comfortable working with and across different personalities and departments. You are highly analytical, flexible, and an excellent communicator. Your arguments are based in facts and best practices, and you can easily digest and explain rules associated with the Accounting discipline. This is a full time position located in our New York City office. Previous start-up or creative agency experience is a plus. Typical Assignments May Include: ? Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct, and evaluate the organization's fiscal and budgetary function and performance. ? Participate in the development of the Company's financial plans and programs as a strategic partner. ? Provide technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the financial discipline. ? Develop annual budgets and interim budget forecasts as needed. ? Develop, maintain, and grow relationships with external financial partners as they relate to the Company's financial standing and practices. Review our existing third party relationships and submit process improvement recommendations as appropriate. ? Collaborate on transaction-processing functions, conducting analysis and investigations when needed. ? Protect Company assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls. ? Work closely with independent accounting firm to ensure the timely compliance with all reporting requirements and provide all information as necessary. ? Oversee, audit, and assist in payroll functions as performed by our Accountant. ? Develop and maintain an adequate system of budgets and controls created to mitigate risk. ? Publish complete and timely financial statements to CEO and COO including (but not limited to) P&L, budget analysis, year to year comparisons, profitability of each contract, cash flow and budget analyses. ? Strategize where we can make changes or refine practices to improve financial standing, both for the betterment of the Company and of the employees by analyzing results, monitoring variances, and identifying trends. ? Analyze capital investments, contract negotiations, and pricing decisions to align with Company goals and needs. ? Work with CEO, COO, and HR Manager to provide insight for new hire budgets and other compensation-related needs such as salary increases and bonuses. ? Partner with Office Manager and Program Manager to ensure operational integrity with regards to expense management activities, and client management, and initiate corrective actions as needed. ? Prepare and ensure the accuracy of financial reports, charts, tables, and other requests as needed. Ensure that these reports comply with current accounting principles and financial reporting standards. ? Analyze and interpret financial data to recommend improvements or changes. ? Monitor compliance with all local, state, and federal tax filings and reporting requirements. Address issues with the NY State tax authority when needed. ? Recommend benchmarks for the measurement of Company financial performance goals. ? Account for any budget variances and report significant discrepancies to the COO. ? Create procedures for all finance-related practices. Skills/Qualifications: - Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, or related business field. - A minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in a senior finance role with emphasis on financial planning and strategy, financial analysis, forecasting, developing budgets, quality management, and managing profitability. - Expertise in Quickbooks and Excel. - Familiarity with Mac OSX and related software. - Experience with business or accounting software. - CPA or CMA certification is a plus.
