Position Overview

The Senior Database Administrator plays an integral role in the development of new products and software features as part of a cross-functional team implementing Enterprise Software. The position is ideal for a creative Senior Database Administrator who can work with staff to plan, design, develop, monitor, and maintain databases while promoting practices that result in Software Engineers implementing scalable designs for new software products. The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for maintaining the Enterprises Production, Test, and Development Databases predominantly running Microsoft SQL Server. Additionally, the position will work to mentor staff on good design principles while reviewing and recommending new market technologies to provide economies of scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with Technology Leaders and Business Units to plan, design, develop, monitor, and maintain hosted databases that serve Software Applications to customers; ensure data security design principles and best practices are adhered to.

  • Perform Database Administration Duties which include maintaining user access, performing database backups, database recovery, design, create, and maintain objects including tables, files, partitions, indexes and stored procedures.

  • Perform installation, patching, and testing activities for different servers and software releases across the enterprise; ensure quality controls are in-place during software sprint releases.

  • Monitor Database performance and trouble-shoot problems, resolve database capacity and storage concerns, provide solutions for pro-actively resolving potential issues through your knowledge of operating systems, databases, and software engineering technology stacks.

  • Design, develop, and maintain data warehouses that serve as a centralized source of data from multiple platforms which are consumed sources for enterprise reporting applications.

  • Work with Software Engineers and participate in new software product development to ensure designs are scalable and best practice; recommend changes to Engineers based on performance and scaling factors.

  • Provide data services to external systems by implementing ETL processes.

  • Provide DBA Support for software releases and after-hours support based on a rotating schedule to ensure high-availability and high-performance of Databases.



  • Bachelor's Degree required or equivalent experience. Computer Science Degree, preferred

  • 10+ years' experience with SQL Server 2008/2012/2014/2016

  • 10+ years' experience with Data Architecture and Best Practices

  • 10+ years' experience, SQL Server /T-SQL /Stored Procedure /Triggers/Functions

  • 10+ years' experience with data design, security, and enterprise scaling practices

  • 5+ years with SSIS

  • Deep understanding of Domain Driven Design and Software Practices

  • Deep understanding of security strategies in commercial and enterprise software with respect to databases and data storage

Desired Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Database concepts, design, and processing including database administration, maintenance, implementation, security, and data transformation.

  • Strong knowledge of Database design standards, configuration, tools, and services for database management systems; experience developing SQL Queries, Stored Procedures, functions, and views. Demonstrated ability to work with data from numerous sources.

  • Knowledge of advanced principles and practices of relational database management and design, including the integration of database structures.

  • Experience with the physical and logical database design, data security, data recovery, backup techniques, and optimum processing techniques.

  • Strong knowledge of SAAS hosting technologies including AWS and Azure with a SQL Server Focus.

  • Working knowledge of technology stacks with a focus on C# .Net. / Python / Postgres

Experience in the following is a plus:

  • Agile Development Practices and Processes

  • Software Technology Stacks especially .Net

  • Object Oriented Concepts and Experience with OO Languages

  • Multiple Operating Systems including Linux

  • Amazon Redshift Technology

  • Tableau Reporting Technology
